How do I protect my network from denial-of-service (DoS) attacks?

EXPERT RESPONSE
There are quite a number of things one can do, depending upon the type of the attack you are protecting against. To discuss them all would take far too much space here. Fortunately, there are some good papers available on the Internet which you can use for reference. Four of these are:
